SESTKA means clocks. Custom made clocks. Clocks exactly how you want them. All SESTKA clocks are made according to the author´s original design. However, you can also make your own suggestions and your vision will be realized.
SESTKA means also interior and exterior architectonic proposals. Clocks for public spaces and big outdoor clocks as well.
If you want to have a piece of magic world at home, this is an option for you. These clocks are made to cheer you up every time you look at them to find what time is. Even if you do not care about time at all.
You will find lots of clocks on this website. Clocks made from different objects, pictures or photograps, printed computer collages, canvases - clocks made from all the different materials you can think of.
There is no object or matter I can not made a clock of.
You can find more information below.
History
Why did I start to make clocks? I always wanted to have some nice looking clock in my room since I was a child. But there was no selection in the store for me. The clocks you can find in usual clock stores are very boring, not colourfull, not funny at all to me. Then I found one really nice piece - it was to expensive ... and then finnaly I realized I can make my own clock. With my hands according to my ideas. The first idea was very simple.
First clock was made in 1997. It was the Blue Triangle. I got some comercial cd-made clocks and I did nont even know how to took it apart. I crashed the cd and pull it out from the clock movement. Then I made two triangels - halves of the bigger one and put them into the clock movement. Then I had to fill the crack and sand it to look triangel as a one piece. To make this clock would take me today probably about 10 minutes but ten years ago it was couple of days... :) It is very easy take the clock movement apart if you know how to do it.

BLUE TRIANGLE - first SESTKA clock. The flower was not there on the beginning. |
 |
|
I did not start to make more clocks after the Blue Triangle immediately. It took couple of years of occasional attempts before I made the Yellow house clock. And that was the first milestone. I realized I could be a real clockmaker.
|
 |
YELLOW HOUSE - is the brand mark of "Uz jsme doma" which is a popular Czech band ( www.uzjsmedoma.com ). I used to play bass guitar in this band between 1996 - 2001. This house shaped clock was another article to satisfy our fans, beside CD´s, t-shirt´s and pop-up book´s. I made about 30-40 pieces. They were all sold out. It was the first SESTKA small mass clock production. But this clock is only half-hand-made clock since I used plotter cutted plastic foil for the house black outline and the window as well. |

The "yellow house" experience and first succes in selling clocks really made me start to crave making more different ones. But it was not that easy. My first clocks (include the Blue Triangle) were only experiments for me or my friends. They were prototypes. The Yellow House was a succesfull prototype but I did want to make one kind of clock for the rest of my clockmakers life. Making more and more experiments made me realize there is a gap betwen prototype and real model... I have to say I was little dissapointed with some results.

You can see the results on the picture (they are mostly from the period between 2000-2002). I can not really say I do not like them. There is just something missing. It took me a while to find out what is it. And only then the real journey started. |

The first fence to overcame was my lack of patience. Have an idea is fine but realize it with proper care is another thing. To do everything in this process with maximum accuracy. Or at least with 80% of accuracy. To look the final object nice and clean. This is of course something I try to improve all the time. Maybe I just need to realize on the beginning how much important it is. Since then I am used to focus on details. They make the idea to be a good looking real thing.
If you want to make things properly you need proper tools. If you want to buy proper tools you need money. I was happy to make some by the end of 2002. I spent them mostly for tools, clock movements and different kinds of material. That was another strong impuls. And also a kind of habbit. Since that time I put most of the money I made into the "clock program". First of all I bought a selection of OLFA cutters, then cutting mate, De Walt drill, Proxxondrill, different clamps and so on. I also found really usefull to start making assembly jigs to help with procedures you can hardly find any proper tool for. This is how my room-workshop looked in january 2003.

Having a regular job as a elevator company sales person I started work harder on clocks in january 2003. That time I used mostly different paper segments layouts, computer made picture collages from my photograps and old magazins illustrations as a body of clock. To get a clock movement I bought regular clocks in the store, then took them apart and fix it to the clock body I made. (picture below)

January 2003 seems to be for my clock career a breaktrough from another reason. I made Randez-Vous clock. I mean, I always like to make clocks. More or less. But Randez-Vous was different. I experienced a feeling I have never had before and probably not even after. To make an object in which you materialize your dream visions. It was very strong and magic.

I made my first EXPRESS clock. 60 real newspaper headlines. There is one for every second. These headlines are all about some guy who did something bad. The Black Chronicle ... You can turn the clock around (clokwise, even anticlockwise) and read.

It was about april 2003 . I took one of my latest clock and went around couple clock stores. To show my work and check out the response. Most of the clocksellers were not very interested so they usually said my clocks are interesting. I visited also a very small watchmaker´s in the centre of Prague. I showed the clock to the guy behind the desk. And he took it and then showed it to his friend ( probably his colegue-clockmaker ) standing there too. I will never forget his face expressed : " Look. This guy wants to sell something like this. Could you beleive it?!" Then he said something to me too but I do not remember. I just remember his face. I left the store very dissapointed. Then I decide to give a name to my clock. Somehow I felt it very important.

This is the clock I made my first "promotion tour" with... I tried to choose something neutral, most acceptible for everyone. It was not probably the best choice. My mission was not very succesfull. But it made me realize what the next step should be. |
